To ensure that an Employer complies with the Mine Health and Safety Act and the OHS Act requirements, he has to identify hazards and assess their risk to Employees.
NAPAS can assist the employer to conduct three types of HIRA (Hazard Identification Risk Assessments): Baseline, Issue-Based and Continuous. The risk assessments are inter-related and form an integral part of a Safety Management System. It is not correct to focus on a single aspect of HIRA and assume that the other risks elements are automatically covered.
Initially a Baseline HIRA has to be conducted to assess a company's Risk Profile, this information will be included in their Issue-Based and Continuous HIRA processes respectively.
HIRA is not a once-off process but a continuous re-assessment of hazards and the risk associated with these hazards.
